the standing 8:

8. "waiting in vain" by bob marley(one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time, beautiful)
7. sole searching(thats s-o-l-e)
6. www.skins.be
5. the darkness(men what do rock baby! \m/)
4. lomo cameras
3. how every second that passes is a second closer to the upcoming nba season
2. hot shots golf fore!(the best golf game youve never played)
1. olympic jordan VII's

top 8 snes games:

8. ogre battle(maaad slept on. this game wasted just as many hours as FFIII did!)
7. final fantasy II(you know i think im just putting this on here because of the weight the "final fantasy" name carries. im not huge on this one. it was too tough for one and i played FFIII first so i think that spoiled me.)
6. super mario world(arguably the best mario game ever, and yes im including mario 64 and sunshine into the mix, but imo it falls just short to super mario 3 and yoshi's island.)
5. zelda a link to the past(i loved this game so much, never beat it though.)
4. chrono trigger(man, try to track down the original snes cartridge with box of this gem, you wont find it.)
3. super mario world 2: yoshi's island(wow, talk about slept on. they never mention this one among top mario games. i think that was due to yoshi being the main character and mario just some little baby you carried on your back. this game deserves alot more praise than it got. such original game play in this one. top 3 mario games of all time and arguably imo the best platformer EVER, dont snooze.)
2. secret of mana(this is square's zelda killer and you know what? it does kill zelda. as blasphemous as that sounds, id rather play mana than zelda. the weapon system was more fun, the way you cast spells was much more interactive, you flew around on a dragon and fighting in real time with up to two of your friends was crazy. this game had it all.)
1. final fantasy III(the best final fantasy ever. i repeat: THE BEST FINAL FANTASY GAME EVER! im not gonna state why i love this game so much here, i'll save that for later cause this deserves it OWN post. people can argue VII being the best ever. they can argue till the cows come home. it still wouldnt change the fact that they are wrong.)

I have two SNES carts of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI. I also have the box and maps to go along with CT. I also have the versions that came out on PS. I have one cart of FFII. Did you know they released the hard (Japanese regular) game on PSX for FFII? I own that as well.

yeah i got both cartridges too with box and instructions intact. i copped both when they got re-released on the ps. anthology and chronicles only cause i didnt want to have to break out my snes everytime i wanted to play them. which in the end didnt matter cause i rock emulator style and i take my laptop with me usually wherever i go.

*shakes finger* That's Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI, not II and II you silly American, II and III were both for NES (yes I am an RPG snob).

Not a bad list, but personally I would add Earthbound in there somewhere. By far one of the best SNES RPGs of all time. That and I fell head over heels for Mario RPG and Harvest Moon. They'd have made my list as well. ^_~

FFIII had so many interchangable characters.. but here's the thing.. they were all UNIQUE!! you actually CARED for each and every one of them. and not only that, not only do you win the double jackpot, not only do you get what's behind door number two.. but... each character had a back story! holy crap!
there has never been a game with so much emotion in it before or since FFIII. the music is the best. the heroes are the best. the weapons are the best. (genji + atma + terra = meow)

if FFIII had one flaw, it's the villain. i could care less about kefka. gimme Zeromus any day!!

my standing 8 SNES list goes:

8. Crono Trigger (Square)
7. FFII (Square)
6. SimCity (Maxis)
5. Contra 3 (Konami)
4. Super Mario RPG (Square)
3. Super Mario Kart (Nintendo)
2. Street Fighter II (Capcom)
1. FFIII (Square)

yes you cared for ALL of the characters in FFIII. after the end of the world, you didnt have to retain all of the characters but you WANTED to. i couldnt have gone on if i hadnt found everyone. it just wouldnt be right. you cared about the characters so much you HAD to feed cid the fastest fish so he wouldnt die, you HAD to wait until the last second while the world was ending so shadow could catch up to you. best rpg ever imo. i remember saving my game right before fighting kefka and every morning before i went to school i would beat the game and watch the ending. EVERY MORNING(yeah i know i couldve recorded it but we were poor ass so our vcr was poor ass).

i remember leveling up all my characters to 99 and having EVERYONE learn ultima, holy crap kefka didnt know what hit him.

ahhh great list.

sim city and street fighter are also classic. man, the snes was an ill system.

i spent $110 on FFIII the day BEFORE it came out. i played it all night, and skipped school the next day so i could finish it. the day after, i went to school and to all my friends, and said "yeah, i beat it"... they were still in line to rent it! mwa ha ha ha.
i STILL own that cart. still have it there. yay!!

so, why'd you have to bring up Cid and Shadow??
i waited! i totally waited! i waited and waited and waited. two minutes until the end of the earth, and i waited and waited for almost all of those two minutes.
...with 11 seconds left, i said "screw it" and jumped.
*weeps* i never found Shadow until too late.... but i always remembered him. ironic, how my entire party abandoned him and all.... heh.
and with Cid, i stumbled on that part forever! i didn't think to feed him fish for half an hour (he sooo should've been dead) and then when i fed him the regular fish, he goes and dies on me. gah! then that Celes/opera song, so sad... i was all wet-eyed.
went down for supper and my mom said "were you crying?" and i said *sniff* "no".

man, you were hardcore. my friend did something similar and his parents went away for the weekend and he stayed up and didnt sleep until he beat it. i wasnt that hardcore into it while i was playing because it was the first rpg and final fantasy i ever played. and i was skeptical to begin with cause up until that point my thinking was, "what the fuck? i aint playin no wack ass rpg where i gotta read! fuck that boiring ass shit!" but my friends insisted that i try it and that i would love it. i did, and i did. this was the game that made me into the rpg fan i am today.

man, you let shadow go?! noooooooo! that happened to me, i didnt wait the first time playing and beat it without him. i didnt get a few players the first time around: shadow, mog(moogle charm is the shit), umaru and gogo.

awww dont bring up the opera scene. THAT very scene was the one that changed me as a gamer. i NEVER imagined something so original and involving in a video game! i was LOVING FFIII up until that point but when i played through that, i was like: "this is the greatest game ever." i still can hum the opera song in my head haha.

FINAL FANTASY III was my fave game when i was a kid. still my fave of the series.
ive never beaten it tho, the copy i had woulda freeze during the last boss battle.
the game would freeze, and the characters woulda turn into numbers and the background would mess up.
i never got a replacement copy (my parents had a rule, two games per year). i still dont know what happens at the end.

Re: you forgot the BEST game of all time

ahhh see now i gotta disagree with you there. i hated donkey kong country. it was just your typical 2d side scroller. nothing really fancy about it. the gameplay was nothing compared to the likes of super mario world or super mario world: yoshis island. why imo most people cite it is because of the graphics which were really nice at the time. but that was its only real main selling point. that and the donkey kong name. so im gonna hve to leave it off this list.

i do regret leaving off mario kart though. but i will stick with my list.

hey thanks for replying to an old post. nothing i love more than people responding to old posts. peace.

Re: Yeah, its me posting late again!!!

oh yeah, i think either a gamecube or a ps2 would be good. the new zeldda coming out for the GC is gonna be game of the year when that comes out. and final fantasy 12 is coming to the ps2 this year as well and thats ALWAYS quality. sucks cause i dont have too much time to play rpgs, but every now and then i get my "level up" on.

thanks for the late reply! love it.
